Thoughts on Adventure (and a goal check-in)

One of my goals earlier this year was to try new things in 2012. It’s funny how when you set an intention, things start to fall into place. I’ve tons of great new things this year and it’s only the first week of May!
Some of us go on great big on adventures, and some of us start smaller and a little closer to home. Over the years, I’ve learned that trying to fit into someone else’s shoes most certainly leads to disappointment. I’ve always had this feeling that I’ve missed out on so many things or that I *will* miss out if I don’t work more, spend more, travel more, go out and party, or whatever the case might be. My life has definitely been ruled by FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Even though I realized it, reading it made it more obvious and this week I had to tell myself to SNAP OUT OF IT. I might not jump off bridges or eat body parts of animals that I don’t even want to think about – and that’s okay. I’ll take my adventure and new experiences in other ways, thanks. 🙂
Some of the new things I’ve done might seem small, but they are definitely great big leaps for me! Â Here’s a snippet of some of my adventure taking thus far (yes, I have been keeping a list with dates of completion in Google Docs):
Hike in Malibu
Take a meditation class
Eat foie gras (never again)
Eat star fruit
Visit Hearst Castle
Run a 10K
Buy a lotto ticket
Eat alcoholic ice cream
Be in a human pyramid (what took so long?)
One of the funniest/most interesting things? A few weeks ago, I was having lunch with some gals I work with and somehow during the course of the convo (don’t remember what we were talking about), I said “I don’t do silly things.” I paused immediately after saying it because it sounded so stupid. But it was pretty much true and one of the gals confirmed, “yeah, you don’t.” (Obviously we are not counting the dancing in my chair that I do when I’m at my desk for 10 hours a day. That’s simply a natural result of music blasted through headphones)
Since that time I’ve ended up at two events that happened to have photo booths and I happened to put on stupid crap – and take pictures of it. This is pretty much unprecedented. I never intentionally try to look or act like an idiot. And it wasn’t like I was trying either of these times…it just sort of happened. And doggone it, it was fun.
(me in a tiara = priceless)
I’ve got a lot of other interesting things on my list, but I won’t spoil the surprises. And some of them are pretty dang adventurous for me. I’ll check back in and let you know how it’s going.
What’s the last adventurous thing you did? Do tell! Plus, I need some more ideas!
